VW Polo India launch is nearing a reality.VW India started production of their hatchback in their Indian plant, Chakan near Pune.VW Polo is the most anticipated car in Indian hatchback segment.Polo launch is expected to happen during Auto Expo 2010 and could sport Rs.six lacs price tag.Polo is important for VW Group,as they are aiming to capture up to 10 percentage of Indian car market share within next six years.Polo is expected to lead this mission from front.
VW India’s Pune factory was commissioned in April 2010 and since then they are producing another VW umbrella product Skoda Fabia.Fabia is a lukewarm hit in India and Fabia is expected to get another makeover in coming months.The installed capacity of this new plant is 110,000 units per annum.
“We aim to achieve a market share of 8 to 10 percent in the next four to six years with the three Volkswagen Group brands, Audi, Skoda, and Volkswagen,”said Jochem Heizmann, Volkswagen Group board member.Currently VW developed 50 percentage of local components for their Polo hatchback.This level will further go up till 80 percentage in coming years.After few months the sedan version of VW Polo is also expected to hit in India.
