German Auto major Volkswagen today launched its first made-in-India compact car “Polo” at its plant at Chakan, near pune Maharashtra where Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was also present.Volkswagen Polo will come in both petrol and diesel engine option.Volkswagen Polo will be priced in a vert competitive range of Rs 4 to 5 lakhs. It will give strong competition to Maruti Swift, Maruti Ritz, Fiat Punto, Hyundai i10, Hyundai i20, etc. Volkswagen Polo is already available at European market and it got huge popularity there because of its stylish looks, performance, advanced features that are available at low price tag.
“The Volkswagen Polo will be rolled-out early next year. The hatchback version of Polo will be launched in H1 2010 while the sedan version will be introduced in the second- half,” Member of the Board and Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Neeraj Garg was quoted as saying
Chavan who welcomed the company’s decision to set up Rs 3,800 crore plant at Pune with an annual capacity of manufacturing 110,000 cars, said the state government would extend support to it to achieve its full capacity utilisation at the earliest.
The Chief Minister said the government was looking out for more employment generation opportunities and appealed to foreign investors to consider opening their new plants in backward regions of the state such as Vidarbha, Konkan and Marathwada.
